Refund not able because i changed my nickname?

Hello. One of my friends sent me 20$ and i was not able to recive them because my account was not verifyed. I was trying to verify and i realised that i had a nickname, and i changed my name while the payment was processing. The person who sent me the money says that because i changed my name he can't refund and that the money is lost. Is that true and can i get some help please, so the person can refund the money or i can recive them?

Hello, @Flaviusica. I understand how trouble with a payment would pose a concern. Here's what I can tell you.

In general, a name change would not have an effect on a payment sent to you. However, if your PayPal account is not verified and enough time passes since the payment was sent, PayPal might have returned the payment to the sender.

For customers in Romania, verifying a PayPal account requires adding and confirming a credit or debit card. Please see https://www.paypal.com/ro/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-verify-my-paypal-account-faq444 for more information on that process.

If PayPal had to return a payment to someone, the money would go back to their payment method which is usually a bank account or card (https://www.paypal.com/ro/smarthelp/article/where-is-my-refund-faq1212). The person who sent the payment should look in their Activity and click on the transaction for the payment to see the details. If they sent a Goods and Services payment, they could submit a dispute to PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/ro/smarthelp/article/what-should-i-do-if-i-have-a-problem-with-my-paypal-purc...) to ask for a refund, if needed.
