Receiving money got discounted on transfer

How come a friend sent me $100 and I received only $97.01 to withdraw? I was reading that Friends & Family transactions are free.

You have a business account, business accounts can send friends/family payments but CANNOT receive them unfortunately.

I cannot receive payments or I cannot receive payments without a fee. Please be specific. Note also that I did know I had a business account. I just opened an account when I did. I did not open one up for just business because I had no business but only to link to Ebay back in the day.  Just wanted to be a buyer and seller of stuff.

Well I got an email from Paypal that: "We're transferring money to your bank" - is what it says in the confirmation email. Why would Paypal say this if it will not go through? I will check my bank account to see what happens. It also says on the email this: "You asked us to transfer $97.01 USD to your bank account, and we're processing this transaction now". No you were not specific. I have read it numerous times.

Business accounts can send friends/family payments but cannot receive them

So your payment would have gone through as a goods/services payment and incurred a fee.

Yeah, my friend was on her phone when she sent me money. I don't know what kind of account she has. She said she clicked on friends/family to send me money is all I know. So maybe because I had a business account that Paypal's website did the math themselves and charged me a fee. Good to know in the future and do the math before someone pays you. I found a table that I can use to calculate so I won't get a fee. It showed I would owe a 2.99% fee.  The math is 100x.0299=2.99 so 100-2.99=97.01

YOU are the one with the business account.

User forjonny: United States Business Account

So as YOU have a business account you can't receive friends/family payments.

All payments to your account go as goods/services and you pay a fee.

Thanks. Got to keep up on all this stuff. I just didn't know that I had a business account. I set it up in 1999. Thanks again.

Have you thought of downgrading? You can do so by contacting customer services.
