Pre authorisation on PayPal account

Made credit card payment linked to PayPal. PayPal Pre-authorisation has come up on my statement.  This has never happened before.  Can anyone help as to why this has come up.

When you pay a company then it is often pending or awaiting authorisation until that company processes your order and captures the pending payment.
