I have just had a client pay me £80 via PayPal and the amount I actually received was £76. Is this usual for Paypal to slice off such large chunk of payments? I have told my client to not use PayPal in future but I'm interested to know if orthers find this acceptable?

Sellers pay fees to sell items. That is how paypal funds the service that they are providing you and pay their staffs wages.
Fees are in Paypals user agreement for each country.
If you don't want to pay the fee that gives you seller protection (and buyers like) as it gives them buyer protection then accept payments another way?

Kudos / Solution appreciated.

You must be selling if you are talking about a 'client' and if you are selling goods OR services then YOU pay the fee not the buyer.
Its against Paypal rules to make the buyer pay your fee.
