Money sent to old PayPal account (not closed) and can’t retrieve it!

Have sent money to my son’s old PayPal account that he no longer can access as was linked to old phone number. PayPal customer service are of no help to me or my son. How on earth can we get this money transferred back to me or transferred to his new PayPal account. This issue should be easy to resolve but it’s not. Please advise.

What does it say on the transaction in your paypal account?

How did you send the funds ie which option did you select to send them?

Lastly how did you fund the paypal payment.

Can you answer all 3 if you would like further advice.
