Is a refund supposed to show in PayPal immediately?

I purchased with my credit card through PayPal.
The seller said they refunded me through PayPal a day ago but I don't see any activity in my account. I called PayPal and my CC and they both don't see any activity.
I understand if the funds take a few business days to settle but usually I see a pending transaction in my account when I return something.

If you paid via paypal as a guest buyer ie via a card and not logging into your paypal account then it won't show on that paypal account.
However it should automatically go back to that card.
Paypal say allow 30 days for a card (1 billing cycle) but its rarely that long.
(Can vary according to country though).
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
