I received a payment that's still pending for a week now

I have been receiving money from this account for well over a year, and this is the first time it happens: my client has sent me directly the payment, as usual for both of us, but this time i haven't had the option to accept or decline it; i'm not sure if in this type of transaction there would be such an option, but still it has been taking way too long for the resources sent to arrive in my account. What may have happened? As I said before: we have a fairly long history of dealing with one another and my client usually send me directly the payment, without me sending the invoice, though i'm not quite sure what has happened this time for it to take so long to receive/have the option to either accept or decline. Can you guys help?

Sounds like an echeque, takes 5-7 business days to clear.
