Was it a real friend?

Only its a scammers trick to tell you to use the friends/family option and then say they can't get paid for some reason.

Does it say SENT or PAYMENT next to the transaction or unclaimed/pending?

hi I sent money via family and friends but was advised by the seller to choose that option as I've never used PayPal before, now payment has been received I feel the seller does not reply or when I did catch him online he said he'll send but he's busy and will arrange shipment from the uk. But he never mentioned anything to me about sending from the UK, I was told I pay and he could start shipment within 2 mins, but when I talked to him he said he was arranging and using excuses. I feel I've been had off and it was for my medication, it's so sad especially now during this covid epidemic that people would prey on innocent people to gain and be greedy. can I get a refund or get my payment refunded , I think not but the person will not answer my calls now.

A friends / family (or gift payment) is intended as a transfer of funds from family or friends to one another. For this reason, there is no processing fee when payment is made with bank or PayPal balance.
However as it is a gift payment, there is also no buyer protection as no goods or services should have been exchanged.

If he was not a close mate or family member you should never use that option as it enables the seller to evade paying his Paypal fees and negates your buyer protection at the same time.

You would also not be able to open a dispute (apart from one citing an unauthorised transaction), which would be automatically closed as you did authorise the initial payment.

Be careful as using that option for purchasing goods is against Paypal rules and can lead to account limitation.

If you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card then contact your card issuer and see if they will help you but unfortunately they may decline as well as it was a gift payment.
