EIN or Tax ID for unpaid employees?

I am an unpaid member of a university extracurricular which intakes money through my PayPal account into a larger university bank account. The money is currently on hold for tax ID laws. Do I need to get an EIN from the university, or should I still provide my own tax ID despite the fact that I do not earn income from the business?
