Don't automatically use cash balance first by default

I do not want to use my PayPal cash balance to be used first even when i specifically specify another mode of payment during a transaction. It keeps reminding me that it will use cash balance first but i don't want that. My cash balance is there for my PayPal debit card. How do i turn off that default behavior?

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > second down click on update next to your preferred way to pay and put a dot in one of the options listed.

2022, in the US and having the same problem. This solution doesn't solve anything. No such options exists on said page. PLEASE HELP. Getting super frustrated with Paypal's help system right now and the "Paypal Assistant" bot doesn't even respond half of the time, let alone make any progress in trying to convey that there is a problem at all, let alone what the problem is.
