Do the funds of a canceled transaction go back to the credit card or stay at paypal?

I sent a booking request at uniplaces using paypal, and using my credit card as the source of money. The site says that the money is only charged when the booking is accepted by the landlord. In this case, the landlord declined the booking.

However, at paypal it says that there's a pending transaction that I authorized for the amount of what the booking was. I already know that it takes some days to process the cancelation of the pending payment, but what I want to know is if that amount will go back to my credit card or if it will stay in paypal?

When you pay a company then it is often pending or awaiting authorisation until that company processes your order and captures the pending payment.

If they don't process the order and capture that payment then the pending status times out at 30 days post-payment and returns back to your funding source.

However sometimes the company can void it on their side and you don't have to wait the full 30 days.
