Can't refund due to open dispute

I am waiting on a refund. The company is reputable. They have emailed me to say they cannot refund me as there is an open dispute. I haven't got an open dispute with them, I have checked. Has anyone else had this before?

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear you're running into some issues with a recent refund from a merchant. A refund can still be processed when a dispute is open. If they are still not able to process a refund "due to a dispute" that isn't open, I might recommend opening a dispute through our Resolution Center. Here's a Help Center article with a bit more information on our Dispute Process if you need it.
