Automatic payments randomly failing

Over the last couple of months I've had a few automatic payments fail without any reason given. I just have the single credit card funding source (it has plenty of balance), I've been paying these fine for years and most automatic payments work fine. Just 1 in 20 attempts or so seem to fail. There is no option in the Customer Support area to raise this as I can only raise am issue for a successful payment. Any idea how would get any help on this?

Hello @falconne

Welcome! Thanks for visiting PayPal's Community Forum. I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues with a few automatic payments recently. I can understand that must be a bit concerning. If most of your automatic payments are going through, the issue may be with the merchant or with the subscription itself. Normally, we'd recommend cancelling the automatic payment / subscription and going back through the checkout process with that specific merchant to create a new subscription / automatic payment profile. If you're still running into issues after that, please try reaching out to our Customer Support teams for assistance.

Best wishes!

Reason: Paypal no longer pulls from Bank account if you don't have enough funds in Paypal Account

I had a few Automatic payments fail as well. When I called to find out what was happening I heard an automatic call on hold message that was addressing the reason for this. Apparently starting September 2023 Paypal decided to stop automatic funding from a backup bank account when PayPal balance is too low for a payment, and instead now declines the payment if the account doesn't already have enough money to cover it. Now it's very inconvenient to use the card as I only have money in PayPal if someone pays me through PayPal. This used to be my favorite card to use for most transactions, but now it has become my least favorite card as I'm always afraid it will decline my purchase. And a bunch of automatic payments that I had set up are always at risk. risk of being declined. I probably will have to change a bunch of cards out or try my best to keep my PayPal account full at all times. So basically the card used to add funds by pulling from your linked bank account but no longer will do this. If you don't have enough money in your PayPal account at the time the transaction is attempted it will automatically decline the transaction, and to make it more inconvenient you will not even know which transaction it was and how much it would have been for so you wont know how much you need to put in for them to reattempt the payment. This change is very annoying to say the least. - DJEmir.com
