Accidental Payment

So I received an accidental payment from my employer. They did not have the option available to cancel the transaction on their end although I had not accepted the payment yet. We assumed the only way to go about this was for me to accept the payment and then issue them a refund. Was this the best way to handle this issue?

If you hadn't accepted it then it would have timed out at 30 days post payment and gone back to your employer.
