My transactions keep getting added to my Pay Pal Credit account

This is the second time I've had a transaction added to my Credit account instead of being processed by my debit card.  How can Pay Pal just add it to my credit account when I've not requested it?  They're also trying to bill me for late fees as it says a direct debit payment was declined from my bank but my bank has no knowledge of any direct debit being declined.

Welcome to the PayPal Community! I'm sorry to hear your funding sources are not being used as you've preferred. Normally you'll be presented with the option to change your funding source at checkout. However, you may want to look at your Billing Agreements and your Preferred payment methods to see if any of them need adjusted.
