Improve PayPal Giving Hub

PayPal's giving hub is a welcome initiative, especially with the 1% bonus being added to all charitable donations, and its policy of absorbing 100% of processing fees.

But it has a lot to learn from CanadaHelps.org, which has been serving a similar function for many years.

  1. Allow donors who want to make several donations to aggregate their donations in a shopping cart, then get one combined tax receipt. That provides a convenient record of previously-chosen charities from past years, and makes it much simpler to claim the donations on your taxes.
  2. Remember a donor's preference for anonymous donation from one donation to the next. Unfortunately many charities will hound a donor with frequent requests as soon as they get a postal or email address. If you are making several donations, it is annoying to have to turn off sharing each time.
  3. Provide a brief profile for each charity, or at the very least a link to the charity's own web site, to help donors decide which charities deserve to receive part of a donor's limited charitable budget.
  4. (long term goal, much harder than the other three) Provide some financial ratings for charities, especially what percentage of donations goes to actual charitable work, and what gets lost in overhead and fundraising costs. Even some of the big name charities have high fundraising expenses, particularly if they indulge in inefficient methods such as lotteries.
