I have been searching on craigslist to find a vacation apartment in manhattan. Several owners (?) want me to wire money to reserve the space, which I am unwilling to do. I have suggested they use Pay Pal as a method of payment. I just received an email back from an owner giving me his email & saying I should contact Pay Pal to send him the deposit. Don;t owners usually set up the account? Is this legit and is there any safety for me on my end if this turns out to be a scam?
He must think paypal is like American Express. They aren't.
Craigslist is pretty dodgy right now - we're getting reports of scams on a daily basis and I do know that one of the Nigerian scams involves renting out apartments that the person doesn't own.
