Unrecognised payment in bank

Hoping someone can help.

Checked my debit card bank statement and noticed an unexpected payment of £49 going to PayPal when I had not used the service for about a month.

I have checked against my PayPal and there have been no payments of £49 going in or out.

Phoned my bank but they advised it was for PayPal to investigate.

Sometimes when you buy something online and use a credit card its processed by a seller via paypal but without you logging in.

That is called buying as a ''guest buyer''.

So double check to make sure that is not the case.

If not then your best bet is to do as your bank advised and contact paypal customer services to investigate for you.
