Sent Money isn't in my Balance OR Pending?

I've just recently started using PayPal. Made an account just under a week ago and an aquaintance of mine sent me money, showed me the cropped reciept (hiding their own bank info) and everything but, when I look at my account no transactions have been made. 

The money isn't even pending. And she claims she did send the money and the amount is no longer in her account. Does that mean the process hasn't gone through yet and PayPal is just holding onto it for a while? Or maybe the person just did something wrong? 

I'm completely lost with this one.

Did you confirm the email address when you added it to your paypal account.

Have you double checked the email address that the buyer paid to and made sure there was no typos.

Was it an international transaction with currency issues?

Is it a payment for goods or money from a mate?

Have you had a paypal email to say the buyer paid the money?
