We are sorry, things don't appear to be working at the moment

For about a week I have had a larger percentage of abandoned orders on my store suggesting payment issues. No all orders but a very significant amount about 50%.

 

I tested and run into this error message once transferred to PayPal for payment: We are sorry, things don't appear to be working at the moment.

 

It does not happen every time but I'm losing £ can anyone help?
