Uncleared payment

I recently purchased an item through PayPal and I read that the payment was uncleared. I checked my account and the funds are pending, it states the amount I payed was taken by PayPal. I went into pay pals website and I read that the funds will be cleared as of yesterday, just for me to wake up and check to see it still reads uncleared. Does anyone know what that means? Does PayPal themselves have a period where they hold the funds?

Uncleared means you paid via an echeque.

When you pay a seller it is never instant > paypal CREDIT the seller for you and then paypal take the wait for your funds to transfer from your bank account etc.

BUT they only do that if you have a valid back up card linked to your paypal account as well, if its not valid or expired then you are the one that has to take the wait for the funds to clear through to the seller.

The clearance date is an approximation as differing banks process at differing times.
