I sold a download game and buyer states his account was hacked

I sold a download game (download a code). The buyer received the code but then the next thing I know is that the money is on hold in my account as they claim there account was hacked. I already sent the code which has now probably been used so I have no game or money. I have been told by a friend that they don't think buyer protection covers download codes for games. Is this is correct then what's stopping every Tom **bleep** & Harry from getting a free game with there money back? My £29.99 is on hold but I now fear I'm going to be out of pocket with no money or game. It's not fair is it. It was a Christmas gift for my daughter which she didn't want so was wanting to buy her a different one. How do you explain the loss of the game and money to a child?

Paypal states there is no seller protection for virtual / digital items, you can sell them but at your own risk.
