Why did PayPal side with the incompetent seller in my returns case where the “brand new” $62 action figure I bought arrived with a squashed box because the incompetent seller sent it IN A PLASTIC BAG not the correct way, in a box with bubble wrap from China to Australia WHEN ALL THEY SELL IS ACTION FIGURES??? Why do they let this action figure salesman send collectables in plastic bags??? It’s bad enough the seller doesn’t care about their customers, but PayPal doesn’t seem to care about their customers either!! …in Australia we have the right to receive items as advertised, it wasn’t advertised as a squashed box that looks second-hand with obvious squashed creases in the box that I sent photos of, it looks like someone sat on it, what am I supposed to do with a squashed action figure, that half the reason I bought it was for the artwork on the box?? I never intended to open a $62 figure… I don’t play with toys!!

Paypal covers you for items ''significantly'' other than as described and I guess a squashed box does not qualify?
If you purchased within your own country then you would probably have the option of a small claims court action? as you would probably be covered by online selling laws.
However if you purchased internationally then you would not be covered. Beware buying from China, it can often be unsafe items or tat.
If you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then you could try a chargeback but again they often don't cover items purchased internationally.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

But collectables sell for less in damaged packaging… I only asked for a partial refund and it was meant for a Christmas gift for my sister in her 40’s as she played with the original version when she was a kid… also you can’t buy this action figure in Australia 😞

I suppose it is what it is, I will have to try another seller and ask if the send it in a cardboard box for postage before I pay next time

Hello @MGB666,
Welcome to the PayPal Community!
I understand you received a damaged item, and I'm sorry to hear that. I recommend reaching out to Customer Support here and requesting an appeal be filed. When you request the appeal, reiterate that the item is a collectible that was damaged upon arrival due to shipping. There is a chance you will be asked to return the item for a full refund rather than receiving the partial if the merchant doesn't agree to it, but hopefully, this clarification will help.
I hope you receive a partial or full refund soon!
