What happens if the bank transfer is canceled by the bank in case of a PayPal « friends » payment?

Hello, I’m located in Belgium. I bought something from someone on a secondhand site in Germany and used PayPal «friends » (I know, huge mistake). The thing is that now, the fraud is confirmed (I received an e-mail from the German site). As the payment was not taken from may bank account yet, my bank suggest I cancel the bank domiciliation to avoid the payment. My question is : what will happen with PayPal if the payment is canceled by the bank/if it can’t be done? Thanks for your help.

Hello @Oliden,

Welcome to PayPal Community Forum and thank you for posting!

I understand your concern about the canceling the payment on your bank's end as you recognized the seller as fraud. Whenever you process the payment, PayPal will first make the payment and then retrieve the funds from your funding source [Bank/card] at a later time. If you do not make the payment to PayPal, the balance on your PayPal account will be negative. In order to resolve the negative balance, you will need to add the funds. Kindly note that payments sent to Friends and Family are considered personal payments and they are indisputable via PayPal.

Regards,
Ayesha
