Dear PayPal Community:
Recent I noticed and unauthorized use of my PayPal account via Meta Platform Inc on 29-Dec-2023. There were 3 transactions by Meta for 120 MXN pesos and 2 for 80 MXN pesos on the same day back to back.
The sad thing is I don't even own/have a Meta/Facebook Account and when I go to resolution center it does not allow me to put a complaint with the other 2 transaction for 80 MXN pesos. I am not sure why the PayPal algorithm did not flag 3 transactions on the the same day from the same entity and it did not check with me to verify the transactions. I have never purchased anything in Mexican Pesos.
When I go to contact seller it says login into your Meta/Facebook Account which I dont have and there is no way to log into.
Also the money was debited from my bank account. I have complained to the bank and deleted all payment information from my account until this is resolved.
Most likely will be deleting PayPal account as it is easier to deal with "real banks" and there are so many other pay services that are availably.
The PayPal resolution Centre is pretty useless as it keeps making you go in circles.
Also posting this post was very complicated as well.
Really disappointed with PayPal..

Why does paypal cancel the dispute when it's clearly a fraudulent transaction if it wasn;t authorised by your account in Meta?
I just got charged with this transaction too and I checked my meta payments or subscriptions and there was nothing shown recently.

Hello @vanderwaa and @applern,
Thanks for posting in the PayPal Community Forum!
I apologize for your negative experience when filing a dispute through PayPal. For PayPal to approve an unauthorized dispute, there has to be unauthorized access to the PayPal account. If there was already an existing subscription/automatic payment set up with Meta, that means nobody else had logged into PayPal to make the purchase because it was initiated through the subscription. If there were unauthorized access on Facebook, Instagram, or one of Meta's other platforms, they would need to file the dispute and help you resecure your account.
However, I understand that you don't see any unauthorized charges on any of your Meta accounts, @applern. If a new subscription was created with the unauthorized activity, then there was potentially an unauthorized login to your PayPal as well. Please reach out to PayPal Customer Support to have them file an appeal on your case right away. You can find the different options for contacting Customer Support here.
If you have already filed a dispute with your bank, that's perfectly understandable. Please note that once a dispute is opened with your bank, any PayPal disputes are closed and cannot be reopened. Your bank would completely handle the case at that time, and any questions regarding the case would need to be discussed with your bank.
I'm very happy to hear you've received a refund, @vanderwaa, and I hope you will receive yours shortly, @applern!
