Should I Take Action?

Recently, someone, from China, sent drilling bits, I did not order, to me.

Although the bits are okay, should I be worried?

Should I do something to prevent an unauthorized charge?

Hello, @William312.

It's always good to be cautious, but it's not possible for someone to cause a charge to appear in your PayPal account by sending you something in the mail. If you have a strong password (https://www.paypal.com/ca/smarthelp/article/faq3152) and Two-Step Authentication (2FA) on your PayPal account (https://www.paypal.com/ca/smarthelp/article/faq4057), that should take care of any attempts to access your account without permission.

Taking other steps like avoiding malicious websites, having strong security software installed on your computer and other devices and being careful not to respond to phishing/spoof emails will also help keep your online accounts secure.

It's possible you received the drill bits as the result of someone's attempt to create a situation where a false review could be submitted. You can do an online search using key words like 'fake review scam' to see more information on that.

In the mean time, it may be worthwhile to contact the merchant (if information is available on or in the package) and ask them if they want to arrange a return shipment for the merchandise that was sent to you by mistake.

I hope this is helpful. Thanks for being a part of the PayPal Community!

Sincerely,

Michael
