Scammer or not?

How do I best confirm or deny if a phone message is from paypal... or a scammer?

I received a mobile call to let me know of transactions that I hadn't performed, but when I log online there is no such transaction.

Australian mobile number: [removed]. I couldn't find the charge online... is this a scam

Thank you for your post. 

I understand that you have received a suspicious call. If the transaction is not listed on your PayPal account, it could be a fake/spam call. If you receive a suspicious telephone call:

1. Take a screenshot of your phone log showing the telephone number
2. Email the screenshot to phishing@paypal.com.
3. Include details of the telephone call, including what the caller stated or asked from you.

If the caller left a voicemail, and you’re able to view a transcript on your mobile device, include a screenshot of it in your email.
