Paypal sided with the seller to make profit on an used item while they claim it's new.

Purchased a $120 shoe from Footlocker, obviously worn and used with scuffs on it. Missing Adidas tag, missing accessories. I filed a report to Paypal.

Here is what Paypal told me to do.

  • Return the item and provide evidence of the return,
  • Get $100 refund from Paypal.

So as a buyer, I will get $20 loss because the seller sold me an used/preowned item and I have to do a favor to return it at my own cost? Slow clap.

Well paypal is doing exactly what they state they will do in their buyer protection policy.

In the event of a dispute you choose your seller and not Paypal so you need to bear in mind possible return trackable costs before you go ahead and buy from that seller.

Paypal state this >>
IMPORTANT: You may be required to return the item to the seller or other party we specify as part of the settlement of your claim. PayPal Buyer Protection does not entitle you to reimbursement for the return shipping costs that you may incur.

You also have the option to do a chargeback via your card issuer instead of a Paypal dispute if you funded your Paypal payment via a credit card.

It's quite interesting that you ignored the whole fact that Paypal asked me to return the item but would only partially refund me. This is also Paypal's so-called buyer protection? Because the seller sold an used item (claimed new) to me and after I return the item, i can only get partial refund? Is this even legal?

Would love to explore why you didn't even mention this in your initial reply instead you just focused on the shipping cost.
