Paypal inkasso - without warning!-

Hey everyone,

I've have an inactive PayPal account that I rarely use. Recently, I got this collections letter, and at first, I thought it was a scam.

After reaching out to PayPal multiple times, I found out there was some activity on my account unknown to me. I ended up paying the amount because they would not resolve it.

The collections agency continues to want more money from me. What's frustrating is that there was absolutely no attempt to contact me before they went to collections, no email, phone call nothing about this mystery debt that I had zero knowledge of. Now not only do I have to pay paypal, I have to pay x3 as much to the collections agency

How is this ethical, how is this legal?

Thanks for any advice or similar experiences!

Hello @Leiaxx

Thanks for joining the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the negative balance on one of your PayPal accounts that was sent to collections. If you haven't already, please reach out to Customer Support to confirm that the negative balance was legitimate and that the letter you received isn't fake. From my understanding, even after a balance is transferred to collections, you shouldn't be required to pay significantly more than the original amount owed. You also should have been notified of the negative balance in your account before it was transferred to collections. Emails would have been sent to the email address associated with your PayPal account. You can view the different options for contacting Customer Support here

I hope this information helps!

Hello, I was not notified before in email not in my paypal account and it took several days for anyone to respond to me to legitimize if it was correct. The collection sent me a letter that was already half of what I owed and gave me less then a week to try to figure it out with paypal before they increased It. I have account and letter proof of all of this and it is extremely unfare communication.
