(Old) phone number was added notification; I did not update

I just received an email notification, from PayPal (not a scam/invalid email) that I just added a new phone # to my account. Looking at the #, I can guess that it's likely that it was my OLD phone #, one I had on there for many years, but only just removed it within the last 1-2 years. The trouble is, I did not add or remove any #'s at the time the email was sent (6:45 am! - in which I was still in bed!). I wonder: is this a PayPal glitch/bug? Did someone with my former, old # somehow try to log into my account (or, even, just tried logging in, with the phone #, period)? Or, has my security been compromised? I did change my PayPal password, and (re)removed the ancient number. I did not see any pending or suspicious transactions. So, I wonder, what the heck happened!? HOW did this happen?

I had this same thing happen to me this evening. I reacted in the same manner. I changed my password and activated 2-factor authentication. However, I am unable to remove my old phone number. It populated as a home number. I have no option to remove it and if I try to enter my primary mobile number, it tells me that phone number is already on my account. I really don't like the fact that some stranger's phone number is now linked to my account through an action that I did not perform. I've been a member since 2001 but I'm tempted to leave this platform. This is crazy to say the least. A big failure by PayPal.

Hello @bigherbdestroys

Welcome to the PayPal Help Community and thanks for posting here!

I do understand your concern regarding login issue due to the multi-factor authentication into your PayPal account. Please note multi authentication factor adds an additional layer to the account login process by needed the PayPal users to enter two or more authentication methods for verification which provides extra security. Please reach out to our customer support team to know what can be done next or to get an understanding of the possible solution to the issue raised. Since you are unable to login into your PayPal account do reach us via phone by selecting the "Call us as Guest" option on our PayPal homepage.

Hope this information helps,
Jyoti

You may want to read my post again. I have no issue logging into my account. The subject clearly states the issue. My problem is PayPal adding an old phone number back to my account that I can't remove.
