Lost package dispute on untracked package

How is it possible that Paypal resolves lost package case on behalf of buyer, due to lack of tracking code, when the buyer has decided to choose untracked (and cheaper) shipping? And without asking any additional questions (although all necessary were already informed). I’m hobby seller, not professional seller. How Paypal or anyone can be sure that the buyer isn’t lying about the receiving of package, if the buyer decides to have untracked package? Why this policy is not informed anywhere? If it would, no-one in discogs would sell untracked packages. I don’t understand the logic, please explain. And if no one can’t please refund my money….

Guess you didn't read up on paypals seller protection policy beforehand?

In the event of an item not received dispute the buyer wins if the seller does not prove with a tracking number that the item was delivered to the buyer.

So of course the buyer will choose the cheaper option, they know if it gets lost they will get their money back. Tracking is for your benefit not the buyers, then if the item gets lost you can refund the buyer and claim from the postal service / courier you used.

Thank you for your information.

First requirement on Seller Protection Policy is:
- The primary address for your PayPal account must be in the United States.
It's a bit hard, as I live in Finland 🙂

But anyways... Untracked is no more option in my sales. Unfortunately no one will be ready to pay 35 euros shipping costs (instead of 10 euros) for products that costs under 10 euros.  So I have to start selling my CD collection locally and without Paypal and Discogs. It's a shame that these global companies have such different logic than local Finnish companies.

Try reading the Finnish seller protection policy on your own countries website then where the first requirement states..........

https://www.paypal.com/fi/webapps/mpp/ua/seller-protection

To be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection, all of the following basic requirements must be met, as well as any applicable additional requirements:

  • The primary address for your PayPal account must be in Finland.

Personally if I paid for an item and did not receive it then I would want a refund as well.

I would also, of course. Who wouldn't?
But if I would buy without tracking, I would understand, that the risk is mine, especially when seller can prove, that the letter is sent (when sending to U.S. we have to register letter, but it doesn't show tracking after leaving Finnish boarder).

Thanks for the information, that every country have own websites. Will look through it, but if the tracking is mandatory, the selling unfortunately stops.

This wasn't enough to Paypal, to show that envelope was sent...  🙂

As i said, proof you sent it is not proof the buyer received it which is why you need to send it trackable.

As I said, it should. Because terms between seller and buyer were determined that way. How seller is in worse situation than buyer? I will also start buying again, only untracked ones.😁

When you opened your paypal account you agreed to the terms in paypals user agreement and seller protection policy.

If you disagree with how it works then no problem just close your account.

Do you want the link?

Yes, please send the link. I would have hoped that someone would have just really looked this case and see that they made a mistake and this would have never in the future happen. And I could have continue selling with ”agreed seller terms written in discogs. But sorry, I was wrong. Sellers just have to accept that some buyers are **bleep** their money and Paypal accept it as well at least in some level. I just clanced few discogs sellers’ terms and they are not aware of these Paypal rules and they assume (such I did) that if they set up ”untracked package terms”, they reaaly apply when package is lost. I will warn couple of guys (that I have purchased CDs before) about this, so it grows awareness of this. Thank you for your clear answers! 👍
