Hello all, I am selling an item on FB marketplace and a guy from Hull has asked to buy it, he claims to have paid via PayPal but my account had not received the funds. I then received 2 emails telling me to follow the verification process to get my funds. I will copy and paste one email here, I have eliminated his name and my email for protection - Hello (my email), Follow the verification procedures below and send us the requirements so we can release the fund to your account. This is to let you know that the £463.00 GBP you received from (buyers name) has been secured by PayPal but has been put on hold by our fund verification team. The total sum of £463.00 GBP has been deducted from (buyers name) account. Your money will remain in our ESCROW until we receive the shipment reference/tracking number from you.  We want you to proceed with the shipment of the parcel and get back to us with the shipment reference/tracking number which would be provided to you by the courier service after you have posted the parcel in order for us to complete the verification process and release the funds into your account. PayPal Buyer Protection and security measure is to secure (buyers name) from losing their money, while you are also safe by shipping the item upfront, because (buyers name) will not be permitted to reverse the payment after you have shipped the parcel and emailed the shipment reference/tracking number to . Email us the shipment reference/tracking number to [removed]. Below is the verified shipping address provided. . Shipment Details: Is this a scam? I'm not used to using PayPal unless it's with ebay lol any help is very appreciated. Thank you!

Hello @MrandMrsEnglish

Thanks for joining the PayPal Community; welcome!

I understand you're concerned about the legitimacy of the email and sale, and I'm sorry to hear of the concern the situation has caused. I can confirm the email you received is not legitimate. Please do not ship any items until you can see the payment within your PayPal account. PayPal may place payments on hold, but you will always see a record of those payments in your account first. You can learn more about common scams and phishing emails on our Help Center using the links I've included. (The common scams article is a US Help Center article, but the information applies to everyone.)

I hope this information helps, and stay safe!
