Is this a scam?

I’m trying to sell an iPad on the Facebook marketplace and like most things there have been lot of scammers. This person asked to buy it and asked me to send him the payment request though PayPal. So I did that, then he said he’s sending the funds didn’t see anything show up in my account, checked my emails to find an email from [removed], [removed] Lydia [removed], Thank you for using PayPal. Note that PayPal verifies a member's account on a regular basis to secure maximum protection for both parties. This email confirms that you have a payment from Luke [removed], with Transaction ID: U-5WG71415DM15560B. Funds has been "APPROVED" but your account will not be credited until the merchandise sent to the given Name and Address of the Buyer quoted above and then email back to us by reply to this message with postage tracking number for verification, this will enable us to credit your account within 24 hours. This is PayPal's newly introduced policy to secure both the buyer and the seller. The present status of the transaction is Pending and Your funds have been debited from the buyer's account now awaiting onward transfer to your PayPal account upon confirmation of Postage information for security purpose. You are now mandated to ship the merchandise to the buyer's confirmed address below and email us a proof of postage such as shipment confirmation code/receipt reference number, this is required for shipment verification to transfer funds in question into your account immediately. Then I saw the funds in my transaction showing as pending, I just want to know if this was genuine or a scam.

Hello @Lydia59

Welcome! Thanks for visiting PayPal's Community Forum. I'm glad you reached out about the email you've received. After reviewing your post, I can confirm that email does not seem to be legitimate. If you were to have received a payment, you would see the funds in your PayPal account balance - even if they were on hold. It sounds like the 'buyer' sent you a fake email pretending to be PayPal. Here are a few great Help Center articles you may find useful getting started selling on PayPal:

How do I spot a fake, fraudulent, or phishing PayPal email or website?
How do I receive money through PayPal?
Why is my payment on hold or unavailable?

I hope that helps. Best wishes on this and future sales through PayPal,
