Is my purchase covered under buyer protection if product registration is essential?

Hello,
I am considering buying a second hand UAD audio interface (EUR 1100,-) and the seller suggests using PayPal, so I will be protected.
The unit will only work if it is registered under my name, and therefore the user has to release it from his account.
Should the seller not do this (making the unit essentially worthless), will I be able to claim my money based on Buyer Protection? Or is this one of the exceptions?
Thanks for the info!
best, Roel [removed]
