I received e-mail about a transaction I didn't make.

Today, 30 September 2022, I received an e-mail from [removed]

Invoice updated

Billing Department updated an invoice you previously received. The updated invoice now reflects the following details:

Amount due: $479,00 USD

Due on receipt

The invoice is issued today, 30 Sep 2022, and it's due today too. The invoice says that I sent the payment to eBay, and I need to call Paypal Helpdesk to cancel the payment if I didn't make the payment.

I'm certain that I didn't make that payment, nor that I visit eBay today, if not never in my entire life.

Please help, what should I do?

If its a spoof then NEVER USE ANY LINK OR ANY PHONE NUMBER.

Firstly if the email/text addressed you as ''Dear Member'' / ''Customer'' / ''Client'' OR your ''email address'' then that confirms its a spoof as paypal would address you by your full name eg Dear John Smith.

Secondly if there was a link OR attachment in that email/text to ''cancel'' any transaction or ''confirm'' any details then again it would be a spoof.

Also if they ask you to call the number in the email then it would be fake paypal agents trying to scam you for money to 'fix' something.

If there was a problem with your account Paypal would not ask you to click on an unsafe link in an email / download an attachment OR phone them on a number in an email, they would direct you to log in normally and go to the resolution or the message centre for more information.

I clicked the button that says something to show the invoice. It does lead me to a page with paypal domain so I was thinking it was legit. I really hope it didn't install a malware on my phone and laptop. Thanks for the advice.

I got the same but from amazon. I got the email but didnt click the link. Instead I typed the usual paypal address into the browser and the email is sitting there in my notifications so it looks legit. Yes I shop a lot at amazon but I use mostly gift cards and I haven't even done that for a few days. So, what do we do - ignore it?
