Fraudulent charge by Bytedance

I’ve been charged with USD 98.80 on my Credit card by a company called Bytedance. On my activity it is mentioned: Tiktok. I got no idea why I’ve been charged with USD 98.80 as I have not ordered nor received any products or  services from Bytedance or Tiktok. I’ve issued a complaint at Paypal, but they’ve rejected my complaint. I’ve reopened my complaint and it is under investigation.

how is it possible that I am being charged with USD 98.80 for a company I’ve never heard of and got no idea why USD 98.80 have been charged to my credit card. I didn’t receive an email from Bytedance nor Tiktok in which they’ve mentioned which product or service they’ll deliver for USD 98.80. The safety and security of Paypal is very poorly as I’ve never been scammed via normal bank transactions. I guess everyone needs to be scammed someday..

does anyone have a suggestion for me? Go to my credit card supplier and issue a fraud report?

Hello @Bente3

Thanks for visiting the PayPal Community! Welcome!

I'm sorry to hear about the unauthorized transaction to Bytedance and that your dispute was recently denied. One of the most common reasons for a denied unauthorized dispute is if it is associated with a pre-established automatic payment. If a subscription/billing agreement had already been established, that means that the unauthorized access didn't happen on PayPal but on the merchant's website. If you had a previous billing agreement with TikTok, then you'd want to immediately contact them to report the unauthorized transaction and reset your password. You can also ensure the billing agreement is canceled on PayPal here

If you find that there wasn't a billing agreement set up prior to this purchase, please reach out to Customer Support to request an appeal. You can find the different options for contacting Customer Support on our Help Center here

I hope this helps you receive a refund!

Unforetenately that didn’t help. I’ve issued another claim via calling Paypal’s customer service. I’ve ordered a blazer via a retailer and instead paid voor someone’s Tiktok credit. I did’t subscribe for a pre established payment. I’ve contacted the fashion retailer and Tiktok and both didn’t reply to me. I haven’t ordered anything via Tiktok but was scammed via internet. I am sad to see that Paypal is not helping me in anyway and protecting the fraudulent internet seller. Next step is that I need to issue a police report for online fraud and cancel my Paypal account, I’ve also blocked my credit card as I don’t feel comfortable for paying via Paypal anymore.

This has just happened to me. I have had a payment of €100.70 taken from a company called Bytedance and the activity is showing up as TikTok. PayPal have rejected my initial attempt to reclaim money. Did you get anywhere trying to get your money back.

Yes, I got my money back after I’ve sent several emails and claims. Took some time but got my money back

That’s good to hear. Can you tell me what you said or did? So far PayPal have replied twice closing my case simply saying there was no unauthorised use. I will go back again but just helpful to maybe cut out some of the process!

Continue to reopen claims after they’re denied. Call customer service for advice and keep it fact based. I ordered clothing from a website and got scammed. I made photos of the clothing and fraudulent website. It was a lot of work but it worked out at the end

This has also happened to me today and PayPal refused my initial request to cancel the payment immediately so I have sent a complaint and awaiting a reply .   Good luck Runtrails and hopefully paypal will refund us both .
