Duplicate email account

Requested an upd to the email associated with my acct. Cust svc is telling me my Gmail is on another account, so I can't use it. The other account has same last name, first initial, but is not mine etc. Round and round we go for more then an hour. Short story, told ME to email backoffice to delete email from bogus acct. They told me it's deleted, and to go update my profile. However now, I get message the email is used by another acct. HELP! Four emails to 'backoffice', replies from four different offshore resources. Zero continuity of the issue. I'm at a loss. Any ideas??
