Closed dispute considered active

I had a dispute with PayPal that basically closed immediately. In the resolution center, the dispute is considered as closed as well. When I messaged Scribd, the company I was making the dispute on, they said they would be able to provide a refund, it's just that I would need to close the dispute. After I told them it's closed, support said that "the dispute is still active, so refunds won't be able to be processed." To my knowledge, this is the only dispute I've made, and it's the only case I have since PayPal sent me an email with a case-id, and an email letting me know that the case was closed.
