I placed an order online and paid with PayPal - only to find out it was shortly cancelled and I was refunded... in store credit.
I am shocked at both actions taken but mostly the latter.
I've browsed similar issues on this board and have surmised that because I didn't receive the item, PayPal has got my back in this issue.
Is that true - and if so, how can I proceed?

Welcome! Thanks for visiting PayPal's Community Forum. I'm sorry to hear you've run into some issues with a recent transaction. If you did not receive your item, and the merchant hasn't issued a refund back to your PayPal account, you can open an Item Not Received dispute through our Resolution Center. However, I'd recommend reaching out to the merchant first to discuss what options they're willing to offer. They may be willing to cancel the store credit and offer a full refund back to your PayPal account.
