Brainety fraud

UAB Rebilita using the name Brainety seems to be scamming many people including myself. Can PayPal do anything about this. PayPal is a big organisation with an influential boss and I'm surprised that this particular issue hasn't been addressed

Paypal would not be able to check every individual seller / merchant / company in over 200 countries worldwide that adds paypal to their website to accept payments.

So they give some buyer and some seller protection. However that protection can never be a 100% coverall so you need to read it so you can risk assess your transactions.

They do stop bad companies from using Paypal when enough claims start rolling in.
However as they are in China (mostly) then its easy for them to just start over with a new name, so stopping them does not really do anything.

The best thing is to not buy from them in the first place, to recognise them -

1. No return address on the returns policy. The site will look as if its in your country (where they despatch goods from) but they will ask for returns to go back to China (returns depot) at a shipping cost often more than the item is worth.
2. No contact telephone number. if you click on contact the most you will get is webmail or an email address.
3. Rarely company address information.
4. Great pictures of items at bargain prices that turn out to be tat.
5. Fake reviews.
6. Google and you can often see previous company names as they change them once enough claims roll in and Paypal stop them using their services and start over.
7. Send fake tracking numbers to win item non receipt of item claims.

Thanks for replying. The problem is that I haven't purchased anything. This is a subscription which I didn't make. I have purchased many things from China with no problems but this particular issue seems to be different altogether.😊

A lot of times what happens is people accept a free trial for a product and forget to cancel. As a buyer you must agree to a billing agreement/subscription before a merchant can take a payment from your PayPal account.

If you don't notice during checkout OR don't cancel then it auto renews. Be careful what you are accepting.

Check if you had a subscription set up and cancel it?

Hello,

I just joined the huge cohort of Brainety victims and have the case under review with Paypal.

I appreciate that Paypal cannot check every detail of every company but on the other hand, I have checked Brainety's scam on Trustpilot, Reddit, Sitejabber, scam-detector.com, and I have signed a petition against them on change.org. There is a HUGE trail on the internet about their scam, which is impossible for Paypal to ignore.

On change.org, in one of the comments to the petition, the exact way the scam works is explained in detail, how it is presented deceptively and uses a weakness in Paypal security to initiate a subscription.

The company behind Brainety is not in China but in Lithuania, according to scam-detector.com. Lithuania is part of the EU. Paypal should know this actually, if they have an account.

When the evidence is this abundant and overwhelming, a company with the size and might of Paypal has a responsibility to protect its users.

Best regards.

Unfortunately, there is no way Paypal can do anything about what seems like a scam to you.
You have to go to court and you should first of all present evidence to that. You really shouldn't be making such accusations at all, because at worst, Brtainety could sue you for false accusations.

You might argue that the victims of the alleged scam are more often people with an IQ below 100. But that doesn't mean that Brainety is scamming stupid people, or even exploiting lower intelligence for its own enrichment.

That's how it goes in the world, that low-intelligence people behave according to the proverb: He gained little, and lost it quickly.

You can contact your state attorney general if you are in the US and report fraud.  I did that and "Brainety" (aka rebilita.com) coughed up right away with a PayPal credit.

As of right now, Brainety has offered me 30% back on what they illegally took from my PayPal account, and more recently, 50%. PayPal has been useless in this matter. Today, I researched alternatives to PayPal. There are several. But I think I need to keep my PayPal account open at least until I recover my money. (I have had a long and uncomplicated relationship with PayPal, but it appears they are going in a new direction. My case is a single charge of $38. I feel bad for others who did not catch on to this theft for many months.

I wish to note thaPayPal. though PayPal appears to be operating this complaint site, I managed to find it quite independently of any help from Paypal.

They are in Lithuania, at least they show up on Lithuanian web site as UAB REBILITA. The link to their own site does not work.
