How do I see full details of purchases ie. description of the goods not a generic one?

If the merchant added them, click a transaction on the Activity page or check the email receipts from PayPal or the merchant. If you have an online account with the merchant shop, check the order history there.
It happens. Hit the "Login to Ask the community" button to create a question for the PayPal community.
