Activity Download Report includes the same TransactionId on different dates

Hi,

I downloaded the Activy Report for June 5 2022 into a file and then a separate download for June 6 2022 into a second file.

When I opened the files in Excel I noticed that the same TransactionId appears in both files.

In both files, the Type is Express Checkout Payment and the status is Completed.

All data columns are identical in both file except for the Date and Time.

How is this possible?

Surely a Transaction Date and Time cannot change?

Hi there.

Thanks for reaching out on the Community.

I understand it can be concerning when a payment appears twice with different dates. Sometimes when you make a payment to a merchant, the transaction can be processed a little later than when you checkout. This could be the reason the transaction is showing up on both June 5th and June 6th.

However, I would advise checking your funding source to ensure you weren't debited twice for the one payment. If there is a duplicate transaction, it's best to contact the seller/merchant to inform them and request a refund/cancellation.

You also have the option to dispute the payment. You can do this by going to the Resolution Centre and selecting 'Report a problem'. Here's a link to the Resolution Centre - www.PayPal.com

I hope this reply has helped your understanding!

Thanks Adam.

Sorry, I probably should have been clearer, I am the merchant receiving the payment, not the payer.

The issue is that for my business I need to do a daily reconciliation with my accounting system.

The data provided in the download file makes this impossible as the same transaction is included on multiple days and has a status of 'Completed' on each day.

Do you know if there is any way to filter this report to prevent duplications or any other data downloads that won't have this error?

Regards,

Eric

Hello @EricS63,

Thank you so much for posting your response within our PayPal Community.

If there had been an issue processing the payment, PayPal may attempt it again. This can cause the payment to appear at a later time and date.  I hope this helps offer some guidance, if not, please reach out to our Customer Support for additional help. You can reach Customer Support by clicking Contact at the bottom of the PayPal website. They're also available through Twitter direct message or Facebook instant message.

Thanks!

- Ashley
