return shipping refund

I understood that PayPal refunded return shipping charges. However, I have just returned an item to Argos and received a refund but have also paid out a charge of £6 for returning the product. The refund states that this return is not elegible for a refund of shipping charges. Why? Thanks

Did you activate the ''return postage on us'' option BEFORE you bought that item?

If so then scan through the FAQ in this link and see if you can find out why.
