I cancelled my direct debit from my bank to PayPal. How has PayPal still taken money out of my account?

OK then totally not sure on this one.

Your best bet is to contact customer services and challenge them on it directly, good luck.

Click on the words "Contact" at the bottom of your paypal account summary page and use the phone option (if there is one in the country you are in) > click on the "call us" option on the left (fees "may" apply so check the cost with your phone tariff first, as you sometimes have to wait a while to connect).

When you get through don't select any options just hang on till you get transfered to an agent or say the word "agent".

OR have you considered contacting Customer Service via Facebook or Twitter?

You can send them a personal message from their facebook or twitter pages.

It's: https://www.facebook.com/PayPalUK and @AskPayPal for Twitter.

Were there funds in your paypal account balance?

Where did they take the funds from? Did you have a debit card they took it from?

The funds were in my bank account not my PayPal account. But I cancelled the direct debit from my PayPal to my bank account... It shouldn't be possible to then take funds from my bank account should it?

Depends when you cancel it.

When you pay a seller it is never instant > paypal credit the seller and then paypal take the wait for your funds to transfer from your bank account to paypal.

They may not leave your bank account up to 3 days later BUT if you cancelled the direct debit AFTER you paid then you authorised them to take it from your bank account whilst the debit instruction was still in force so they could do so as it was processing from the minute you paid.

If you paid AFTER the direct debit was cancelled then no they should not have been able to do so.

If you paid for an item and did not receive it then you can open a paypal dispute via resolve a problem in the resolution centre, lower left of your paypal summary page.

If it was an unauthorised payment ie your account was hijacked etc then you can file a dispute for that.

If you received an item that was misdescribed again file a dispute.

Failing that if you authorised a payment to someone and all went through ok then you can't open a dispute.

It was a monthly payment. However I unauthorised PayPal to take the funds out of my account this month. The direct debt allowing PayPal to take funds out of my bank account was cancelled, leading me to believe PayPal had taken unauthorised funds from my bank account. Is that grounds for a dispute?
