Hi

I have been charged twice by paypal for the same item.  The seller has only received one payment.  Where do I go from here?

I've just discovered Paypal has charged me twice. It seems to happen far to often. I will not be using Paypal again.

I have contacted the seller who is refunding the Paypal double payment but he says Ebay is charging 20p for the privilege of righting this Paypal screw. Incompetents or shysters?

Yeah, as a seller I am not happy about this either. Why should I have to pay a reversal fee for a screwup by PayPal?

I have been using PayPal quite happily for about a year with no trouble. Now suddenly in the last couple of weeks there have been multiple cases of double payments, even though I have not touched any settings on my site at all.

In some cases the buyer will contact me and ask for a refund which I do.... costs me $1.50

In other cases the buyer will contact PayPal, and they do the reversal... costs me $1.50

Either way it costs me about 5% of the cost of the thing I'm trying to sell.

Spread this over a million users over say, a year, and just like that PayPal makes a cool $1.5 million extra per year... is that what's going on here?

Hi iforce2d,

Welcome to the Community Forum!

I'm very sorry to hear about this.

The duplicate payment is initiated by a buyer, very often by mistake but you can block duplicate payments in your account settings.

Here is how to do it:

  1. Go to www.paypal.com and log in to your account.
  2. Click Profile at the top of the page.
  3. Click My selling tools.
  4. Under 'Getting paid and managing my risk' click Update beside 'Block payments.'
  5. Select Yes or No in the Block Accidental Payments section and click Save.

In a case of a duplicate payment refund, please contact us directly and we will look into refunding you with that fee.

You have a few options when trying to contact customer services. You can call or send an email through the Contact Us page on PayPal. You can also contact us directly on Twitter @AskPayPal or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PayPalUK and we can assist you with any queries that you have.

Hope it helps.

Anna

I had funds removed twice by paypal and Ebay and when this was resolved in my favor, only one of the 2 were refunded and after many communications I was told by several it was their fault and that i would see the rest of my $800+ returned to my account in 24-48hrs. This did not happen, so when I called back again (seems to be hour to hour and half phone call every time) this time they tell me all those other reps were wrong(how can 6 reps on the same case be wrong???) and I wont be getting my money back and they are going to use this as a training experience for these "new" reps. ???? Seriously??? Paypal and Ebay were on a 3 way with me, and they were both high end specialists, supervisors, and both came to the conclusion, yet again, that they were at fault and I would be getting my money put back into my account. Now, I still havent gotten the money back, now they send me an email through Ebay with a transaction on their computer screen for Dec 18th that shows they credited me, but like I tried to tell them before (and they only want to argue with you and cut you off) that I have zero transactions for that day, I show no credits at all for that amount, all I have on my account is a negative where they took the money a second time instead of giving it back. I refuse to be out over $800 because of THEIR MISTATKE! They either refuse to admit that they had so many reps hands "in the pot" and **bleep** up, or they had so many reps "hands in the pot" that an employee took my money and made it "look" right on their computer screen. That transaction they sent me via an ebay message does not even exist!! And if they try to change my account to make it look "right" its too late, I have everything printed and downloaded to show I am in the right, I have also gone back over 4 months and added up my books by hand and I am exactly short the over $800 they stole from me. I want my money back that was their mistake to begin with. Both Paypal and Ebay have admitted several times they made the mistake and now they are trying to take it back. WRONG and if it doesnt get resolved soon, like NOW, I will go as far to report both. Stop trying to cover it up and be honest

I have been charged twice by paypal today. Usual story, 180 + euro x 2. Told it doesn't happen. Sent bank statements showing it does. Have put my bank account into unauthorised overdraft. Seller received only one payment. One item delivered. Told I would hear back from PayPal today. Didn't.

Hi Colm444,

Was this an order with a large merchant rather than a direct payment?

Did you receive 2 email notifications from PayPal, if so you should have 2 separate transaction ID's . If you have 2 separate transactions under your 'history' tab in PayPal I would suggest opening up a Non Receipt claim for 1 of the payments and PayPal can dispute it on your behalf.

Let us know how you get on!
