Save PayPal with Vault Javascript flow

I have been successful in integrating a PayPal checkout that saves payments to the vault at the same time. Now I am attempting to integrate saving a payment to the vault without a checkout and I can't work out how this is meant to be done with Javascript to complete the payment as there is no documentation on it in PayPal. I have been following this tutorial

Is this the right tutorial to be following? I would simply like users to be able to be able to save their PayPal payment to my site so they can later use it.
