E-Check from buyer FAILED, question

I use a LMS site that lets users pay through paypal. One user paid with an e-check that failed. My question is, after the user paid with the echeck how does my LMS site know when the check clears then gives them access? I'm thinking the user paid for my LMS site with a echeck and got access but 3 days later the echeck was declined.  How does the echeck and my LMS site work together to send that IPL to give access.

For Classic integration, PayPal offers Instant Payment Notification (IPN). This would notify the system when transactions occur on the account, including updates for pending e-checks.

For the REST APIs there is something similar called Webhooks.

Depending on the platform you're using and what integration method they are using they should be using one or the other to handle updates like this.
