I sold 24 dvds for £2.60. Postage paid £1.40. When I took the parcel to the post office the cheapest postage was £8.99! What do I do?

Sadly thats your problem not the buyers.
They bid and won the item and paid the costs as per what you advertised on your auction.
You should weigh all items first including any packaging and then go to Royal Mail website to work out what the costs are BEFORE you list the shipping costs on your auction.
Did you really think you could ship 20 DVD's for the cost of a letter?
I would take the loss and put it down to a learning curve OR cancel the order and accept any negative feedback.
Also as you broke a contract to sell your buyer 'could although very unlikely' pursue you in the small claims court.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.
