Receiving invoice or gift payments?

So when I want to use good and services and the person I’m buying from request the money from send the request how do I know if it’s friends and fam or goods and services ? Paypal doesn’t tell me so I’m paying this person without knowing if I’m protected or not.

PayPal invoices and money requests (which are informal invoices) incur a PayPal fee for the recipient and is a goods and services payment. If you want to be absolutely sure you're sending a goods and services payment, you can send it this way:

From computer:

1. Click Send & Request at the top of the page.
2. Enter the name, email address or mobile number to whom you are sending money, then click Next.
3. Enter the amount you want to send.
4. Select Paying for an item or service.
5. Select your shipping address if you're paying for an item or service.
6. Click Continue.
7. Select how you want to pay, then click Next.
8. Review the information on the screen and click Send Payments Now.

From your PayPal app, here's how:

1. Tap Send Money.
2. Enter the name, email or mobile number of the recipient.
3. Select Goods and Services and click Next.
4. Type the amount you'd like to send and click Next.
