Pay in 3 pending when I didn't complete the order on merchant site

I was getting ready to pay for a purchase on a site then changed my mind and cancelled the paypal screen. However it has come up on my account as 

'pending' and is still pending 2 days later when I haven't even completed the order on the site. I am unsure why it is still pending.
